After relocating to the southeastern United States in 2000, Diane began to work with clay. She fell in love with the feel and potential of the medium. She believes that clay is powerful and feels grounded with her hands in clay. The medium is well suited for expressing her love for natures large and small creatures.

 

When it comes to the technical character of Diane’s work, almost anything is fair game. She uses several types of clay, from earthenware to porcelain. For finishes, she uses a full range of elements: glazes, underglazes, stains, oxides, lusters, and paint. On average she fires her pieces three times to get the effects desired but may fire her work as many as six times.

 

Additionally, other media is sometimes incorporated in her pieces including wood fragments, wire, feathers, fiberglass and found and recycled objects.
