From mosquitoes and caterpillars to life-like monkeys and snakes, Diane Gilbert's sculpture is centered in the world of nature.
Diane was born and grew up in Canada's French-speaking province, Quebec. With extensive education in various art media,
she worked for several years as a professional designer, creating costumes, mascots, movie props, and items for museums and other organizations.
After relocating to the southeastern United States in 2000,
Diane began to work with clay. She believes that clay is powerful and feels grounded
with her hands in clay. The medium is well suited for expressing her love for natures large and small creatures.
She uses several types of clay, from earthenware to porcelain. For finishes, she uses a full range of elements: glazes, underglazes, stains, oxides, lusters, and paint.
Additionally, other media is sometimes incorporated in her pieces including wood fragments, wire, feathers, fiberglass and found and recycled objects.
